There was a vendor at the National who had a whole table of older non-sports card sets and a huge box of loose cards from each of those sets. When I saw that he had Alien cards at 4/$1.00, I picked up four cards I would be able to send to actor Tom Skerritt and have some of these in my autograph album.
I had gotten Skerritt earlier this year TTM on a 1987 Topps checklist. I keep getting asked why I send the checklists, and the answer is simple. I send them out because I have so many of them, so I figured I'd use them up by getting random folks who were "active" in 1987. There's no rhyme or reason to it, I just thought it would be a good way to use them, and have a couple really cool pages at the back of my 1987 album.
I really like these cards, and am glad I could add a few to my autograph album. Skerritt is likely the only actor/actress from Alien that I would have been able to get, as several have passed away, and Veronica Cartwright and Sigourney Weaver aren't signing.
I mailed to Skerritt on August 7 and got the cards back signed on November 23, for a 108-day TAT.
