Tommy Holmes (b. 1917 - d. 2008) played in the majors from 1942 to 1952 for the Braves and Dodgers. He had 1,507 hits, 88 home runs and a .302 batting average. Holmes led the league in home runs in 1945 with 28. He also had 224 hits that season while batting .352. Holmes finished 2nd in the NL MVP voting that season to Phil Cavarretta. Holmes appeared on two Hall of Fame ballots (1958 and 1960) and received at most, 0.8% of the vote.
Tommy Holmes was a player/manager for the Boston Braves in 1951 and 1952 where he was 61-69 (.469 win %).
