TTM Success - Dave Geisel

A TTM success from Dave Geisel came in recently that landed me a couple 1984 cards for the autograph album.  The above q984 Fleer turned out nicely.  I don't have many of these in the album, so it was a nice add.
1984 Topps isn't my favorite set, and they kind of get pushed to the back of the line when sending, so it was nice to get this one in.

Geisel (b. 1955, today) played in the majors in 1978, 1979 and from 1981 to 1985 for the Cubs, Blue Jays and Mariners.  He had a 5-5 record, 144 strike outs and a 4.01 ERA.

I mailed to Geisel on November 21 and got the cards back on December 2 for an 11-day TAT.

TTM Success - Mike Squires

Here are some cards that had been sitting in the to-be-TTMed box for a long time.  Mike Squires charges a fee to sign, so I put off sending to him for a while, but finally got around to it.  The above 1984 Fleer turned out nicely.
I also got a 1980 Topps, 1981 Topps and a 1984 Topps signed.  I'm glad I finally got them out of the box.

Squires (b. 1952) played in the majors in 1975 and from 1977 to 1985 for the White Sox.   He had 411 hits, 6 home runs and a .260 batting average.

I mailed to Squires on August 7 and got the cards back on August 16, for a 9-day TAT.  I paid his fee of $5/card.

TTM Success - John Curtis

John Curtis's cards sat in my box for a long time.  I had seen that he signed then it looked like he had stopped. Finally, I got tired of thumbing past them and I checked again to see that he was signing.  So, I finally sent to him and got a great return of several cards, including the above 1984 Fleer.  I lime the simplicity of this set. I don't have many cards from 1984 Fleer in the album, so I made sure this was one that went out.
I also knocked off a few Topps issues including the above 1976, 1980, 1981 and 1984 Topps.  I had a few of his cards left over, so I'll spread them out to some friends so that they can send to him, too.

Curtis (b. 1948) played in the majors from 1970 to 1984 for the Red Sox, Cardinals, Giants, Padres and Angels.  He had a record of 89-97, 825 strike outs and a 3.96 ERA.

I mailed to Curtis on October 9 and got the cards back on November 3, for a 25-day TAT.

2021 National Free Signer - Tim Stoddard

Tim Stoddard was the last free signer for this year's National, and is the last free signer I am posting, thus wrapping up the bulk of my 2021 National posts.  I had amassed a ton of Stoddard vouchers, as most folks weren't sticking around til 2pm on Sunday to get him.  I was short on cards, so Max came in and helped me out with what I needed to match up with each voucher, save for one.  I rushed to a table near the signing area and found this 1984 Donruss Stoddard, which I ended up having him inscribe with 1983 WS Champs.  I don't have many 84 Donruss at all in my albums, so adding this one is pretty cool.
I had also pulled my 1991 Crown Orioles Stoddard to send along, and got it done.
Max hooked it up with a ton of Stoddard Topps cards; his 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1988 getting signed.
I also had gotten his 1984 and 1987 Fleer, as well as his 1987 Donruss taken care of.

This just about wraps up my 2021 National posts.  I'll be back with a Wood Ducks recap, an in-person signing going on tonight and lots more TTM posts.  Hopefully you enjoyed my look at the 2021 National Sports Collectors Convention; there may be one or two more posts sprinkled in there, but the bulk of what I saw and did have been summarized.  Thanks for reading.  Also, I do see your comments, but Blogger doesn't allow direct replies, so if you truly want an answer to something, shoot me an email.

Two TTM Successes From Dickie Thon

Dickie Thon signs through PastPros, so I figured it would be pretty easy to get my 1987 Topps signed by him.  I went through PastPros' steps back in November, sent my card in and waited.  I waited so long, I had forgotten about it, but when cleaning out my email, I saw the receipt from PastPros, and that it should take no longer than a month to get my card back.  I emailed them, and they said they would look into it.  I waited and forgot again, and when I was missing another player (Eric Plunk), I remembered that I needed to look for this one again.

Finally, I got a message from PastPros that Dickie had never received my 87 Topps, and would sign and send me one of his own.  THEN they message me again saying he didn't have any 87s, but he would send me something else.  I got this 1984 Fleer All Star card.  In the email, PastPros told me to re-send an 87, and Thon would sign that for me, as well.  So, I did, and got that signed card back in about a week.
I'm glad to have gotten my card back.  I have no idea what happened to the other one, but I can mark him off of my checklist, and all is well.

Thon (b. 1958) played in the majors from 1979 to 1993 for the Angels, Astros, Padres, Phillies, Rangers and Brewers.  He had 1,176 hits, 71 home runs and a .264 batting average.  He was an All Star in 1983.  He was a Silver Slugger and finished 7th in the NL MVP voting that season, as well.

I originally sent to Thon on November 6, 2018, and got the 84 Fleer back on September 30, for a 328-day TAT.  I sent the second 87 Topps on September 28, and got the signed card back on October 5, for a 7-day TAT.

TTM Success - Bob Kearney

It took a while, but I got a TTM success from Bob Kearney. The 1984 Fleer above turned out pretty well. I only have a handful of these, so it was nice to pull one and get it signed.
Of course, I got my 1987 Topps signed, and I also added a 1986. Both look nice, and are now in my album. I have filled another album, so I think I am on to number 11. I need to get in my closet and count them again. I count my 87 album, even though it isn't full.

Kearney (b. 1956) played in the majors in 1979 and from 1981 to 1987 for the Giants, A's and Mariners.  He had 316 hits, 27 home runs and a .233 batting average.

I mailed to Kearney on 8/21/18 and got the cards back on 4/5/19, for a 227-day TAT. He kept my 1984 Topps. Thankfully, he returned the 87.

TTM Success - Jim Wohlford

Jim Wohlford's cards sat in my TTM box for a long, long time before I finally got around to sending to him.  When I did, I was able to cross a card off of my 1987 list, and also add a few other nice ones to the album, as well.
Along with the 87, I sent Topps cards from 1977 and 1978 and also a 1984 Fleer.  They all look great, which is nice.

Wohlford (b. 1951) played in the majors from 1972 to 1986 for the Royals, Brewers, Giants and Expos.  He had 793 hits, 21 home runs and a .260 batting average.

I mailed to Wohlford on February 27 and got the cards back on March 23, for a 24-day TAT.

TTM Success - Mike Fischlin

I've got to get a whole bunch of stuff posted before I leave for the National, or I am going to be so far behind, I won't know what to do.  So, here is a TTM success from Mike Fischlin that got me this cool 1984 Fleer signed, and an 87 for my set.
The 87 turned out really nice, and I can't forget the 1986 beside it.  I still can't believe the prices that some of the 1986 boxes are going for now.  I had bought a bunch for $5 back when I got back into collecting.  People are getting them and grading them for some reason.

Fischlin (b. 1955) played in the majors in 1977, 1978 and 1980 to 1987 for the Astros, Indians, Yankees and Braves.  He had 207 hits, 3 home runs and a .220 batting average.

I mailed to Fischlin on March 30 and got the cards back on April 12 for a 13-day TAT.

TTM Success - Jim Morrison

This TTM success from Jim Morrison took a long time to come back.  So long, I was pretty close to writing it off.  Thankfully, it came back, and the cards look great.  Also, I am really lucky I included this 1987 Topps, because this was WAY before I was doing the set.
I'm glad I included the old non-Topps cards.  They also turned out well.

Morrison (b. 1952) played in the majors from 1977 to 1988 for the Phillies, White Sox, Pirates, Tigers and Braves.  He had 876 hits, 112 home runs and a .260 batting average.

I mailed to Morrison on December 3, 2016 and got the cards back on March 22, 2018, for a 474-day TAT.

TTM Success - Pete Ladd

This was a really nice TTM success, and one where I really couldn't decide on which cards to send.  I wanted to make sure I sent this 1986 Topps Traded, because one of the things I tend to look for in a card to send is hairstyles of the times.  That and awesome poses, or amazing uniforms.  Since Pete Ladd looked a lot like Weird Al in this shot, I had to send this one off.
Conrad from the Columbia antique shop gave me a partial set of 1980 Topps, so I have been reluctant to drop any of those cards off of the requests.  I'm not the biggest fan of having players sign cards with other folks on them; mainly because I don't want to lose one that has already been signed, and I don't want OCD to take over when there is only one signature on the card.  Still, I wanted one of Conrad's cards to go on the journey.
Again, here is a cool hairstyle and uniform on this 1984 Fleer.  I also wanted to make sure I used one of the cards from my FLeer box, especially since I don't have a whole lot of mid-80s Fleer anyway.
I also added some Topps cards, as usual.  I had to add a 1987, of course.  I also liked the 84, 85 and 86 that I sent along.  I almost dropped the 86, since I sent the Topps Traded, but I wanted them both, side by side, in my album.  Luckily, Ladd signed everything.

Ladd (b. 1956) played in the majors in 1979 and from 1982 to 1986 for the Astros, Brewers and Mariners.  He had a career record of 17-23 with an ERA of 4.14 and 209 strike outs.

I mailed to Ladd on October 9 and got the cards back on October 21, for a 12-day TAT.

TM Success - Andre Thornton

This was a nice TTM return from Andre Thornton on some cool 1980s cards.  The above 1986 Topps Indians leaders card really turned out well.  I like these cards, and they look really nice when signed.  Thornton has a really interesting signature, and it really pops on this card.
I also added a 1981 Topps, 1987 Topps, 1984 Fleer and 1986 Fleer.  They all look good, but none of them matches the 1986 Indians leaders card.

Thornton (b. 1949) played in the majors from 1973 to 1979 and 1981 to 1987 for the Cubs, Expos and Indians.  He had 1,342 hits, 253 home runs and a .254 batting average.  He was an All Star twice (1982 and 1984) and won the Silver Slugger Award in 1984.  He received MVP votes three times in his career.  His best finish was 19th following the 1984 season for the Indians.

I mailed to Thornton on September 16 and got the cards back on October 16, for a 30-day TAT.

TTM Success - Cliff Johnson

Here is a pretty cool TTM success that I got from Cliff Johnson.  I thought the old Cubs uniform on this card was great.  I had a ton of 1981 Topps that I sorted by number, then pulled all of the guys who sign TTM.  I now have a ton of 81s to get signed whenever I send out packages. It is a nice year of Topps to get signed, I think.
I also liked this 1977 Topps due to the Astros jersey.  Johnson also looks like he wants to hit that catcher over the head with his bat, for some reason.
Finally, here is a 1984 Fleer that I found.  I don't have many of this year of Fleer at all, so getting this one signed was pretty nice.  There is a lot of blue on this card.

Johnson (b. 1947) played in the majors from 1972 to 1986 for the Astros, Yankees, Indians, Cubs, A's, Blue Jays and Rangers.  He had 1,016 hits, 196 home runs and a .258 batting average.  He won the World Series with the Yankees in 1977 and 1978.

I mailed to Johnson on December 3, and got the cards back on December 23.  I sent four cards and $10.00, he kept one card.
