1969 Topps Set Pickups From The Antique Shop

When I wasn't buying high-value vintage cards or stuff for friends at the Columbia antique shop, I was knocking cards off of my 1969 Topps set wishlist.

I picked up 41 cards that I needed for the set.  After this trip, I need 178 cards to complete the set.  I couldn't believe that I still needed this Brooks Robinson for the set.  I thought I had added it a while ago.

There were a bunch of stars that I picked up,  This Don Drysdale was a nice pickup.  It is far from mint, but it is still a nice addition.  This is actually Drysdale's last Topps card, as he would retire due to chronically sore shoulder during the 1969 season.

This Bob Gibson is nice, but will probably be upgraded at some point.  I didn't notice that it had a big crease near the bottom right corner.  I know not to expect my vintage sets to be mint, so I may ot even upgrade it at all.

I picked up several of the All Star cards that I was missing.  I added this Brooks (again, I thought I had an extra of this from my PC), Willie McCovey, the below Ron Santo and a Bob Gibson.

So, I made a nice dent in the 1969 set.  I am happy with what I spent, and I hope to keep chipping away at this set this year.  It would be really nice to close it out BEFORE the National, that way I can pick up other stuff, but I don't know.  Events are piling up already for me this year, and budgeting is going to be tough.

Mailday From Joey - 1966 Topps Don Drysdale

I got mail from my good friend, Joey, the other day when he sent me some money in exchange for a David Ortiz RC that I picked up for him.  He surprised me with this Don Drysdale 1966 Topps, which I wasn't expecting.

Drysdale retired young, at age 32 after the 1969 season and waited until his 10th ballot to be enshrined into the Hall of Fame (1984).  He would also pass away at a young age, when he had a heart attack at the age of 56 in Montreal.

I completed another deal with Joey today, one we had been working on for close to 6 months, it seems.  I've been patiently holding onto some things he was interested in while he gathered up the money.  Joey is one of the best kids on Instagram that I have dealt with, so he has earned a lot of leeway with me, as far as timing and deals go.  He has been a loyal follower and trade partner since my beginning on there, and I am happy that we could come to an agreement on yet another deal.

Card Show Success Part 2 - Completing the Trade

So, I posted yesterday about making a trade at the card show - My 2008 Stadium Club Pujols triple relic/auto plus a Felix Hernandez auto, Pedroia Relic Auto and another auto that escapes my memory right now for the awesomely old (authenticated) Mazeroski autoed ball and the beauty above... Don Drysdale JSA authenticated autoed baseball!

So, by my unofficial count, this Drysdale is HOF ball number 26. It feels like I have already said I had 26 baseballs before this one but I will get to that in a later post.

Anyway, I was really pleased with the haul I got in return for those autoed cards. I knew the guy I traded the Pujols for would be able to turn it around (along with the other cards) for a profit, but I had been looking at baseballs of several different Hall of Famers and Drysdale is always very expensive. I figured, why not go ahead and go for it while I have the chance and some trade bait instead of dropping cash on one on Ebay and getting some bad news about it later on (more on that later.....)
