2022 National Paid Signer - Dale Murphy

Another of the paid signers at this year's National was Braves legend, Dale Murphy.  I had gotten Murphy on the 87 Topps from a private signing.  I wanted to meet him again, since I met him at a past National (on the edge of the signing pavilion as he was chatting with someone).  I had this 2019 Topps short print that I wanted signed, so it was an easy choice.

Murphy was super nice, which is what I always hear.  I mentioned to him that he was my aunt's favorite player, so he told me to tell her hello for him.  I texted her and she said it made her day.  He also posed for a great selfie with me:

Instagram Trade With Brandon - Several Autos

My friend Brandon messaged me recently to let me know that he was getting out of the hobby and that he had several signed Braves cards from the 1987 Topps set.  He sent me over  alist of who he had, and the only one I needed was Braves legend, Dale Murphy.  I actually had a conversation with Murphy at the National a couple years ago. but of course I don't just walk around with a stash of 87s in my pocket, so I wasn't able to get one signed.  I'm sure Brandon had met him a few times.  Murph was really nice, and I'm glad Brandon was willing to part with it for the stack of Christian Pache cards that I sent him.

I wasn't expecting Brandon to send anything extre in the trade, but he included a bunch of other autos for my album.  I needed all of them, and a couple were pretty unique cards.

I had gotten Barbaro Garbey at a Danville Braves game a while back, and was happy to see this one was a Topps Buyback 86 Topps.  So, it is pretty cool, and was something I definitely didn't have.  The John Mosts is a Topps Tiffany (super glossy version of the original set).

I also liked the 1988 Donruss The Rookies card of Damon Berryhill.  I didn't have any Pedro Florimon cards, either, and these two look great.

Thanks for the deal, Brandon.  I know you'll be back in the hobby sometime in the future.

TTM Success - Dale Murphy

I still have a good bit of stuff to blog concerning my vacation and the National Card Show, but before I forget, I wanted to mention that I received two TTM successes while I was away.  Chris and I were at the Montgomery Biscuits game when my wife texted me that I had two of my mailers come in.  I told her to put them aside and I would open them when I got home.

The first ball I got was one I had been hoping for for some time, Dale Murphy.  I mailed to Mr. Murphy on June 25, 2012 and got the ball back on Monday, July 30, 2012.  That made him a month+ TAT.  He inscribed the ball NL MVP 82, 83.

Murphy (b. 1956) played in the majors from 1976 to 1993 for the Braves, Phillies and Rockies.  He ended his career with 2,111 hits, 398 home runs and a .265 batting average.  The two-time NL MVP played on some BAD Braves teams back in the early 80s.  He has stayed on the HOF ballot for 14 years, never garnering more than 23.2% of the vote (of the 75% needed to gain election).  It definitely looks like Murphy will be on the outside looking in this year as well.  I think he will probably get in eventually, via the veterans committee.
