2023 National Pickup - 1960 Topps Jimmy Brown

There wasn't a whole lot that jumped out at me at the National.  It turned out to be a good thing, as I was able to bring a lot of my budget home.  Still, I did come home with a lot of nice stuff.  One of the cards that did jump out at me was this 1960 Topps Jimmy Brown. 

Jim Brown was one of the greatest football players of all time, and I had the chance to meet him at the National back in 2018.  I passed on spending the $300 to meet him, which I regret.  I'm not a big football fan, but I did enjoy the movies that Brown was in.  I also respect greatness, and adding him to my autograph collection would have been nice.

Anyway, I missed out.  So, I added this card to my collection as a consolation. I can't afford Brown's rookie card, so this one will do for now.  I may pick up a few of his other cards, just because.  I definitely like vintage football cards, but I'm not going too far out of my way to add any.  Just some stuff that jumps out at me.

Another TTM Success From Tony Perez

A nice completion happened recently when I got this 1976 Topps NL RBI leaders card back from a private signing with Tony Perez.  I had gotten Greg Luzinski at a National and Johnny Bench at one of the Hope For The Warriors signings a couple years ago.

I am really happy the card got completed. It looks really cool. 

I sent to the Perez signing on March 9 and got the card back on April 10, for a 32-day TAT. 

TTM Success - Andy Hawkins

The 1987 set has slowed down considerably.  I have to wait for private signings most of the time now to really add to the set.  Recently, one popped up for Andy Hawki s that allowed me to finish the Padres leaders card.

Hawkins is pretty tough, as has been Terry Kennedy to sign his part of this card.  I'm glad I finally got it done, though.

I sent to the signing on February 15 and got the card back on April 8, for a 52-day TAT.

TTM Success - Cole De Vries

Three cards from a couple 2013 sets came back signed in this TTM success that I got back from Cole DeVries.  The above 2013 Topps Heritage turned out nicely.  I don't have much left in my boxes from this set, so it was nice to get one signed.

I also got a 2013 Topps and 2013 Topps Walmart blue parallel signed.  Both look nice.

De Vries (b. 1985) played in the majors from 2012 to 2013 for the Twins.  He had a record of 5-7 with 70 strike outs and a 5.08 ERA.

I mailed to De Vries on June 2, 2021, and got the cards back on April 8, 2023, for a 674-day TAT.

TTM Success - David Villar

Another Spring Training TTM success came in, this one from David Villar on a 2023 Topps.  The card turned out nicely.

Villar (b. 1997) has played in the majors since 2022 for the Giants.  He has 54 hits, 14 home runs and a .193 batting average.

I mailed to Villar on February 22 and got the card back on April 6, for a 43-day TAT.

TTM Success - Paul Popovich

Paul Popovich was one of the free signers at the National, but before I knew that, I had sent to him TTM.  I got the cards back before I left and forgot.  I, then, had to scramble to find other cards of his to take to the show.

I was able to get stuff to take to the show that I hadn't gotten signed with this TTM success, so it worked out.

I'm pretty sure that I have all of Popovich's Topps cards signed now. 

2023 National Pickups - Vintage Set Needs

Back with a post regarding the National, I only pucked up a handful of cards for set building purposes.  I just recently srarted building the 1962 and 1964 Topps sets.  The 1962 set is farther along than the 1964.  Both sets will take me some time to complete, but it gave me something else to look for at tge show.  I picked up three 1964 Topps, imcluding the above Jim Perry. 

I picked up 23 1962 Topps, including Jim Bunning, Ken Boyer, Vern Law, Reds and Red Sox team cards.

My set needs lists have all been updated (finally).  So, now when I go to shows, I cam bring the lists up on my phone and search away.  I still keep my notebook for set needs as well, but I will probably get away from that sometime soon. It's nice to have the needs on the cloud, because I tend to forget to bring the notebook, but I always have my phone on me.
