A Few More Franks From Max

Max was home from school doing some online education, so I went ahead and bought a few more Franks off of him.  These are some pretty nice cards, especially the above 1992 Topps signed in silver Sharpie.

Max chose this 2012 Topps Gold Standard for me, since I couldn't decide on the fourth card out of my lot.  It was a very solid choice, I think.

Finally, here are a 2007 Topps Turkey Red, which always look great when signed, and a 2019 Topps silver pack mojo 1984 Chrome.  The chrome bubbled some.  I just sent a card like that to another Hall of Famer, and I really hope it doesn't come back bubbled, especially given the price I paid.  Fingers crossed on that.

Still, the cards are awesome, as always.  Max is a great guy, and I'm glad I'm able to buy a few of these off of him from time to time.  Thanks Max!

TTM Success - Doug Corbett

I'm so behind on my posts.  I've got a stack of TTMs, a bunch of stuff from trades, birthday gifts, more names on my ball from Mom, and more Franks from Max.  I'm going to keep trying to plug away and see if I can make a dent in this stack.  I may start doing three posts a day, or more, but we'll see.

Anyway, here is a TTM success that I waited on for a while from Doug Corbett.  I love the above 1981 Topps.  It turned out well, and I love the color combos on the card.

I also got a 1985, 1986 and 1987 Topps signed by Corbett.  Of course, the 87 was for my set.

Corbett (b. 1952) played in the majors from 1980 to 1987 for the Twins, Angels and Orioles.  He had a career record of 24-30 with 343 strike outs and a 3.32 ERA.

I mailed to Corbett on February 5, 2018, and got the cards back on July 16, 2020, for an 892-day TAT.

TTM Success - Jeffrey Leonard

PastPros has been adding some new signers to their roster, and a few of them are guys that have been needing for my 1987 Topps set.  One of the new guys on there was Jeffrey Leonard.  I went ahead and got the card in the mail so I could cross him off of my list.

Leonard (b. 1955) played in the majors from 1977 to 1990 for the Dodgers, Astros, Giants, Brewers and Mariners.  He had 1,342 hits, 144 home runs and a .266 batting average.  He was a two-time All Star (1987 and 1989) and was the 1987 NLCS MVP.  His best MVP finish was 20th in 1983; he was second in the 1979 NL Rookie of the Year voting, behind Rick Sutcliffe.  Also, baseball-reference has one of his nicknames listed as "Penitentiary Face".

I mailed to Leonard on April 15 and got the card back on July 16, for a 92-day TAT.

TTM Success - Carter Baumler

I didn't have any of his cards, but this still qualifies as a TTM success.  I messaged Carter Baumler on Instagram right when he was drafted by the Orioles, and asked him if I could get his autograph.  He said don't worry about finding any cards to send, as he had his own.  So, he sent me the above so he sent me the above 2019 Leaf Perfect Game card.

Baumler seems like a good guy, and I was really happy when he sent me this card.

Baumler (b. 2002) was drafted by the Orioles in the 5th round of the 2020 June Amateur Draft out of an Iowa high school.  He comes off as a great guy, and I hope he does well.

I messaged Baumler on June 16 and got the card back signed on July 16, for a 30-day TAT.

TTM Success - Bruce Ruffin

Seeing this card get signed was actually a really great thing for me.  I had Bruce Ruffin cards put aside in my TTM box for a long time (probably dating back to 2016 when I first started sending cards).  I don't know why I had put him in there; Ruffin hasn't signed TTM in a long time.  Sometimes that happens.  I inexplicably pull a player after thinking they sign, then when I go to send to them, I see that they haven't signed their mail in 15 years.

So, I saw that a private signing for Ruffin was happening, and I finally got to send in one of the 87s that had taken up space in my box for so long.

Ruffin (b. 1963) played in the majors from 1986 to 1997 for the Phillies, Brewers and Rockies.  He had a career record of 60-82 with 843 strike outs and a 4.19 ERA.

I mailed to the private signing on May 13 and got the card back on July 14, for a 62-day TAT.

TTM Success - Kody Hoese

Getting 2020 cards signed has been tough this year with no IP graphing happening.  I've been limited to getting guys TTM.  There have been only a handful of guys in any of the 2020 sets that I have been able to get, and Kody Hoese was one of them.  The above 2020 Bowman Chrome mojo that I got at a card show was the nicest of the bunch.

Above are the other cards that Hoese signed.  He signed a 2020 Bowman Chrome, 2020 Pro Debut blue parallel and a 2019 Bowman Draft.

Hoese (b. 1997) was a first round pick (25th overall) by the Dodgers in the 2019 June Amateur Draft out of Tulane.

He got into 41 games in the minors last season where he had 44 hits, 5 home runs and a .299 batting average.

I mailed to Hoese on June 29 and got the cards back on July 13, for a 14-day TAT.

Surprise TTM From Gerard - Sean Burnett

The next surprise TTM that my friend, Gerard, sent out for me was Sean Burnett on two 2013 Topps.  I had actally pulled some Burnett cards to send out, but Gerard beat me to it.  I like that Burnett inscribed the cards with 2000 1st Rd Pick.

Burnett (b. 1982) was a first round pick (19th overall) by the Pirates in the 2000 June Amateur Draft.  He played in the majors in 2004, from 2008 to 2014 and in 2016 for the Pirates, Nationals and Angels.  He had a career record of 15-23 with 27 strike outs and a 3.52 ERA.  I got the cards in on July 10.
