TTM Success - Doug Drabek

I waited and waited before I finally mailed to Doug Drabek for a TTM request.  I had seen that folks had gotten him, but drug my feet in sending to him.  I waited until the season began and sent to him via the Jackson Generals.  This 1993 Studio turned out great, even though the card is really dark.

He inscribed each card, and they all turned out nice.  I wish I had a card of him as an Oriole, but I'm still glad I was able to get what I had signed.

This 1992 Topps turned out really cool.  I had to send off one of his horizontal cards, and it looks great.

Finally, I got a 1987 Topps signed.  I have over 50 signed 1987 Topps now, and show no signs of slowing down on them.  I'm not pursuing the whole set, but it would be cool to get as many as I can.

Drabek (b. 1962) played in the majors from 1986 to 1998 for the Yankees, Pirates, Astros, White Sox and Orioles.  He had a career record of 155-134 with 1,594 strike outs and a 3.73 ERA.  He was the 1990 NL Cy Young Award winner.  He also finished 8th in the NL MVP voting that year.  He also was an All Star in 1994.

I mailed to Drabek on May 12 and got the cards back on May 22, for a 10-day TAT.

The Camaro Rides Again

My friend, Jeff, you know, green68camaro, sent me a care package that i got today to help me with my 1994 Topps set that has been languishing for quite some time.  Jeff sent me about 17 of the cards that I needed for the set.  I have another friend who is sending me some as well.  I think I will focus on completing this one in the new year.

This card, though, is one of the cooler ones of the bunch.  I remember Doug Drabek being the best pitcher around when I was in middle school.  When he eventually signed with the Orioles, I was excited.  He didn't do all that well in Baltimore, but I still think he was a great pitcher.  I need to see about getting him TTM or something.

1996 Topps Cards From Blog Reader Howard

I got an email recently from a blog reader named Howard saying that he had 32 of the 1996 Topps cards that I needed for my set.  A few days later, the cards appeared in my mailbox.  I hadn't been pursuing the mid 90s sets too hard, but I went ahead and put the needs lists for 1993 and 1996 on here in case someone had them lying around.  Luckily, Howard was looking and saw the 96 list.  I'll probably wrap this set up pretty soon with a Sportlots purchase, but at the moment, I haven't made an attempt.  I'm thinking I'll get this and 1993 done very soon and maybe I'll remember to add my 1994 needs as well, since I already have that set in my notebook.

As for the cards he sent, I chose this 1996 Doug Drabek to show off because I kind of forgot about Drabek, to be honest.  I remember him as an early 90s ace, but I completely forgot he was in this set, and even worse, I forgot he pitched for the Orioles in 1998 (his last season in the majors).
