Another TTM Success From Mark McGwire

Anither 1991 Fleer ProVisions card was added to the autograph album when I got this one back signed TTM from a private signing with Mark McGwire.

I always thought this set was cool, so i really enjoy getting these signed when I can. I saw the signing with McGwire pop up, and had already pulled the card to send out.

I mailed the card to the signing on November 12 and got the card back signed on January 20, for a 69-day TAT. I paid a fee of... a lot.

Another TTM Success From Mike Greenwell

Back in 2019, I answered a private signing for a signing with Mike Greenwell.  I got my 1987 Topps signed back then.  I saw another signing come up and I decided to send this 1991 Fleer Pro Visions.  This subset from a very overproduced 90s product still stands tall.  I really like this set.  I got the Canseco signed at a National a few years ago.

I mailed to the signing on February 2 and got the card back today (March 25), for a 52-day TAT. 

2017 National Card Show Free Signer - Jose Canseco

I still don't have much of a plan on how I want to present my pickups from the National, but right now, I want to knock out some stuff from some of the free signers.  The first free VIP signer was the biggest name on the list, Jose Canseco.

Love him or hate him, Jose was the man back in the mid-to-late 1980s.  He was the superstar of that era, and we all now know why his numbers were so huge back then.  He was an admitted steroid user, and burst the steroid bubble when his book Juiced was released in 2005.  I think Canseco was blackballed after his book came out, and have heard lots of horror stories about him concerning other aspects of his personal life.  However, I checked any judgement at the door when I met him, and have to say, he was a really nice guy.

I actually went through Canseco's line twice during the VIP party.  The first card I got signed was the 1987 Topps shown below.  I'm glad I went back through the line, because the best card I got signed was the above 1991 Fleer Pro Vision.  I remember this card coming out right when I started collecting cards.  It turned out really nice, and looks great in my album.

The second time I got in line, I overheard a lady saying she wasn't going to get anything signed; she just wanted to say hello to Jose.  So, I asked her if she would mind getting the 1986 Donruss Highlights card signed, and she kindly did so.  She is also the person who took the photo of Jose and I together.  Later on at the show, I saw that she worked for a card company, so I made sure to but some product from her as a form of thanks.

Canseco (b. 1964) played in the majors from 1985 to 2001 for the A's, Rangers, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Devil Rays, Yankees and White Sox.  He had 1,877 hits, 462 home runs and a .266 batting average.  He was the 1986 AL Rookie of the Year and the 1988 AL MVP.  He was a six-time All Star and a four-time Silver Slugger Award winner.  He his 30 or more home runs 8 times in his career and 42 or more home runs 3 times.  He won the World Series with the A's in 1989 and with the Yankees in 2000.  He appeared on the Hall of Fame ballot in 2007 and only received 1.1% of the vote.
