Three Orioles Win 2014 Gold Glove Awards

They say pitching and defense wins ballgames, and the Orioles again showed that their defense is superior in the American League tonight when three of their players took home some hardware.  Nick Markakis (above) won his second Rawlings Gold Glove award when he was named the AL winner for Right field.  Markakis beat out Kole Calhoun of the Angels and Kevin Kiermeier of the Rays.

Adam Jones won his 4th Gold Glove when he beat out Jackie Bradley, Jr of the Red Sox and Adam Eaton of the White Sox.  I'm surprised that Mike Trout wasn't birthed with this award, since all of the baseball pundits feel that he is the greatest player alive.  Jones is now tied for third All-Time on the Orioles (with Mike Mussina, Jim Palmer and Bobby Grich) with 4 wins.  Brooks Robinson has the Orioles All-Time lead with 16, followed by a tie between Paul Blair and Mark Belanger with 8 each.

Finally, shortstop J. J. Hardy won his third straight Gold Glove tonight when he beat Alcides Escobar of the Royals and Alexei Ramirez of the White Sox.  Hardy and Jones have won three straight gold gloves as teammates.

Yet another productive saturday at the shop...

I didn't want to blow up the computer this week. The tournament (although long and SLOW) went off without too many issues... I also got a few cards, especially since I am conserving cash for my trip next weekend. Here is a little bit of what I got...

First, I bought a pack of Piece of History, mainly cause I was bored, but after I opened it, I was pretty glad I did:

Got a really nice Brian McCann patch (part of the tomahawk) 3/25. Not bad!!

Then Jeremy cane in with a good stack of Orioles cards here are two of the highlights:

Finally, P.A. got a pack of Gouday and pulled this, which was immediately surrendered to me:

NICK THE STICK!!! Woo Hoo. Not too bad a trip this week. I have noticed that since the economy has 'supposedly' started to improve, I am seeing fewer people bring in colections to sell. I do enjoy seeing the old stuff come in, but sometimes, you feel sad to see people have to part with their cards...

Just a good looking card

Picked this up today at my first day back at the shop in a while (raising money so i can afford Series II). Just a really nice looking card, Piece of History Timeless Moments Brian Roberts. I wasn't too sold on the Piece of History set this year. but pulling this card may have sold me on it... What do you guys think? Pretty nice, huh?
