Another TTM Success From Jim Marshall

A couple weeks ago, at the Virginia Beach show, I picked up a few Jim Marshall cards to send TTM.  I jad gotten him before, back in 2020 on a 1958 Topps and my 1991 Crown Orioles card.  I wanted to add a few move vintage cards to the album, so I picked up the above 1960 Toppa, and the 1959 Topps and 1961 Topps shown below.
The cards look great. I think I got them at around $1.00, each.  That was a steal, as all three of them are in great shape.

I mailed to Marshall on November 13 and got the cards back on November 29, for a 16-day TAT.

Another TTM Success From Felix Mantilla

When I sent off this 1960 Topps of Felix Mantilla, I should have looked him up on the blog to see if I had gotten him before. I had gotten Mantilla before and it was those same card. Oops. Oh well, now I have two signed 1960 Topps Mantilla.

I mailed to Mantilla on October 22 and got the card back on November 10, for a 19-day TAT.

TTM Success - Chuck Cottier

I picked up some nice vintage cards of Chuck Cottier at a recent show in Raleigh after I had seen that he signed TTM.  The above 1960 Topps turned out great, I think.  I'm pretty sure the three vintage cards I got (1960, 1961 and 1963) were in a dollar box.
Cottier was also in some 80s products, so I got his 1985 and 1986 Topps signed.

Cottier (b. 1936) played in the majors from 1959 to 1965 and 1968 to 1969 for the Braves (Milwaukee), Tigers, Senators and Angels.  He had 348 hits, 19 home runs and a .220 batting average.

He managed the Mariners from 1984 to 1986 to a record of 98-119 (.452 win %).

I mailed to Cottier on September 21 and got the cards back on September 28, for a 7-day TAT.

Another TTM Success From Whitey Herzog

I thought I was done sending cards to Whitey Herzog TTM, but I had completely forgotten he had been an Oriole, and he turned up in the 1991 Crown Orioles set.  I am not working on this set, but I am trying to get some of the cards signed.  Mostly, guys that are notable and also some of the older former players who may not have many cards to begin with.
The 1991 Crown was a big reason I sent to Herzog again, but I also had gotten this awesome 1961 Topps from my friend, Neil, around Christmas time, and I had also wanted to get it in my autograph album.  This card looks great, and I am glad I sent it along.
Finally, I had this 1960 Topps in my vintage box, and figured that since I was sending the other two cards, why not find another $5 and send this one, as well.

So, for a fee of $5/card, I sent these three off to Herzog and they all look great.

I mailed to Herzog on April 20 and got the cards back on April 27, for a 7-day TAT.

TTM Success - Felix Mantilla

I raided my vintage box once again when I sent off these two cards to Felix Mantilla.  I got a nice 1960 Topps signed, that turned out really well.
This 1962 Topps also looks great.  Mantilla has a really nice autograph.

Mantilla (b. 1934) played in the majors from 1956 to 1966 for the Braves (Milwaukee), Red Sox and Astros.  He had 707 hitd, 89 home runs and a .261 batting average.  He was an All Star in 1965 and finished a career-best 29th in the AL MVP voting that season.  He won the World Series with the Braves in 1957.

I mailed to Mantilla on June 20 and got the cards back on August 13, for a 54-day TAT.  I paid a fee of $10.00.

TTM Success - Willie Tasby

I picked up some vintage cards when I was at the Greenville card show a while back, as you all know.  I still have a few cards here and there of guys that I had picked up.  Most of them are guys who charge for autos, like this success from Willie Tasby.

I was excited for this one because I was able to add a former Oriole that I hadn't heard of to my album.

I was also happy to add this 1959 Topps Rookie card to the album, as it was something a little different than the regular 1959s that I have been able to get.
This 1960 Topps was also really cool to add to the collection.  I know a lot of folks love the Topps All Star Rookie trophy cards, so this was a cool one to put away.

Tasby (b. 1933) played in the majors from 1958 to 1963 for the Orioles, Red Sox, Senators and Indians.  He had 467 hits, 46 home runs and a .250 batting average.

I mailed to Tasby on January 3 and got the cards back on January 12, for a 9-TAT.  I paid his fee of $5/card.

TTM Success - Eddie Bressoud

Here is one of the vintage guys I picked up while at the Greenville card show, Eddie Bressoud.  I really liked the above 1958 Topps, so I was really happy that he signed it.  I sent him 5 cards, and he signed 4.  The card he chose not to sign was a 1963 Topps.

Check out the airbrushed SF logo on Bressoud's hat.  The Giants had just moved to SF, and it looks like the Topps artist had some issues getting the logo right.
I had this 1960 Topps in my vintae box at the house, so I sent it along, too.  I like that he signed this one, as well.
Also, here are Topps cards from 1961 and 1964, both of which turned out really nicely.

Bressoud (b. 1932) played in the majors from 1956 to 1967 for the Giants (New York and San Francisco), Red Sox, Mets and Cardinals.  He had 925 hits, 94 home runs and a .252 batting average.  He was an All Star in 1964 and won the World Series with the Cardinals in 1967.

I mailed to Bressoud on October 28 and got the cards back on November 24, for a 27-day TAT.

TTM Success - George Altman

I look back on this TTM success from George Altman and regret the fact that I didn't include a photo taken of he and I together from when we met him a couple years ago in Goldsboro.  I saw that he signed TTM, and picked up some of his cards from the recent card show in Greenville.  One of the cards is one I had already.

I picked up the above 1962 Post Canadian from the show and didn't think much of it at the time, other than it would be a little something different in my album.  For a dollar, it wasn't a bad pickup, but when I got the card back signed from Altman, I realized that it was the Canadian version.  Now, it definitely was something different for the album.
The 1966 Topps (above right) was from my vintage box, and the 1963 was one from the card show.  I really like the colors on the 1963, and the card turned out well.
I also had picked up a 1960 Topps at the show and sent it along.  It is a nice card, as well.  Altman also included a signed business card for his book, which I plan on checking out soon.

Altman (b. 1933) is from Goldsboro, NC, but now resides in Missouri.  He played in the majors from 1959 to 1967 for the Cubs, Cardinals and Mets.  He had 832 hits, 101 home runs and a .269 batting average.  He was an All Star in 1961 and 1962 and finished 14th in the 1961 NL MVP Award voting.

I mailed to Altman on October 30 and got the cards back on November 13, for a 14-day TAT.

TTM Success - Chuck Estrada

This TTM success from Chuck Estrada was another player that I was able to get using cards I picked up at the recent Greenvile card show.  I was really happy to get one of these 1960 Topps rookie stars cards signed.  It turned out pretty nicely.
I also got these cards signed by Estrada, a 1961 Topps and a 1964 Topps.  Both of them are nice cards.  I love the Topps rookie logo on the 1961.

Estrada (b. 1938) played in the majors from 1960 to 1964 and 1966 to 1967 for the Orioles, Cubs and Mets.  He had a career record of 50-44 with 535 strike outs and an ERA of 4.07.  He led the league in wins (18) in 1960, his rookie season.  He was second in the AL Rookie of the Year Award voting to Ron Hansen.  All three players receiving votes that year were Orioles (Hansen, Estrada and Jim Gentile).  Estrada was an All Star that season and also finished 12th in the AL MVP voting.

I mailed to Estrada on November 3 and got the cards back on November 13, for a 10-day TAT.

TTM Success - Al Kaline

Lately, I have been working to add some really big cards and names to my autograph album.  It has been a slow process, since a lot of them charge money, but I have been able to get a few.  This success from Hall of Famer, Al Kaline is one of the bigger TTM successes that I have been able to get.

The above 1960 Topps has been in my collection for a long time.  I can't remember how or when I got it, but it was in my vintage box of stars for several years.  Probably back when I first got back into collecting, really.  I don't think I will get to the 1960 set anytime soon, so I went ahead and worked on getting this one signed.
A long, long time ago, I bought a 1963 Topps Kaline as a gift for my friend, Max (not the one in Chicago, the other Max), and thought to myself that the 1963 may be Kaline's best card.  When I decided I wanted to send to him TTM, I went on Ebay and picked a 1963 up so I could send it as well.

Both cards came back looking great, and I am happy that I sent them off.

Kaline (b. 1934) played in the majors from 1953 to 1974 for the Tigers.  He had 3,007 hits, 399 home runs and a .297 batting average.  He was an 18-time All Star and 10-time Gold Glove Award winner.  He never won an MVP award, but his best finish was 2nd, which he accomplished twice (1955 and 1963).  He was the 1955 AL Batting  Champion and won the World Series in 1968.

Kaline was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1980, his first time on the ballot.  He garnered 88.3% of the vote.

I mailed to Kaline on November 3 and got the cards back on November 13, for a 10-day TAT.  I paid his fee of $10/card.

TTM Success - Jackie Brandt

It has been a while since I added any 1960s cards to my album via TTM.  I finally got this return from former Oriole, Jackie Brandt, a few days ago after it had been out for a very long time.

His signature showed up really nicely on these cards, though, with the best one probably being the above 1960 Topps.
I liked the 1963 and 1964, as well.  I don't have very many of these cards available to send out TTM, so I might be trying to find some, soon.

Brandt (b. 1934) played in the majors in 1956 and from 1958 to 1967 for the Cardinals, Giants, Orioles, Phillies and Astros.  He had 1,020 hits, 112 home runs and a .262 batting average.  He won the Gold Glove Award in 1959 and was an All Star in 1961.

I mailed to Brandt on January 4 and got the cards back on August 25, for a 233-day TAT.

TTM Success - Joe Morgan

I received a TTM success from Joe Morgan (not the Hall of Famer, Joe Morgan - more on him later) recently on a couple nice cards.  The above 1960 Topps was in my vintage box, and turned out pretty nice.  You can see that the photo was taken at Yankee Stadium.  The old Yankee Stadium, that is.
This 1990 Topps is also pretty cool, 30 years after the 1960.  Funny how much the cards changed.  By this time, Morgan was a manager for the Red Sox.

Morgan (b. 1930) played in the majors from 1959 to 1961 and 1964 for the Braves (Milwaukee), A's (Kansas City), Phillies, Indians and Cardinals.  He had 36 hits, 2 home runs and a .193 batting average.

He managed in the majors from 1988 to 1991 for the Red Sox.  His career managerial record was 301-262 (.535 winning %).

I mailed to Morgan on May 4 and got the cards back on May 12, for an 8-day TAT.
That Joe Morgan is not to be confused with this Joe Morgan, the Hall of Fame second baseman for the Big Red Machine.  I did send a photo to the Hall of Fame a while back and got it signed for Chris.  I need to get it in a frame for him, but I figured now was as good a time as any to post it here.

TTM Success - Joe Cunningham

It has taken me four hours to post this TTM success.  Why?  Well, my laptop up and died on me.  When I say it died, it died.  Everything on there is gone.  All of my pictures, videos, documents, everything.  No, I didn't back anything up.  Lots of what I had is posted on here or on my Facebook, but there are a few things that I know are gone.  That really sucks.  I kept the old laptop with the hope that someday, someone will come along who can pull the stuff off of the damaged hard drive.  Until then, I'll be getting used to a new laptop and looking into an external hard drive.

So, here is a TTM success from Joe Cunningham on some nice vintage.  The above 1960 Topps turned out really nice, I think.
I like the 1959 Topps, as well.  Cunningham also provided the custom "1969 Topps".  That was really nice of him.

Cunningham (b. 1931) played in the majors from 1954 and 1956-1966 for the Cardinals, White Sox and Senators.  He had 980 hits, 64 home runs and a .291 batting average.  He was an All Star in 1959 for the Cardinals, a season where he batted .345 and finished 13th in the NL MVP voting.

I mailed to Cunningham on November 21 and got the cards back on March 7, for a 106-day TAT.

TTM Success - Hobie Landrith

I had grabbed quite a few 1955 Bowman cards at the Raleigh card show back in February, with the intention of adding a bunch of them to the album through TTMs.  Hobie Landrith is a player that I had considered sending to in the past, but I held off because he charged a fee.  Once I picked up the '55, I knew it was time to come off of the money and send his cards out.
I picked up the 1957 Topps at the show, as well.  Then, when I got home, I checked my vintage box and saw that I had the 1963 and the below 1960.  Since he charged $5 per card, I went ahead with the four so I could send a check for $20.00.  To me, it is worth it, since I can add some nice vintage cards to the album, and one of them being an Oriole card adds a bonus to it.
Landrith (b. 1930) played in the majors from 1950 to 1963 for the Reds, Cubs, Cardinals, Giants, Mets, Orioles and Senators.  He had 450 hits, 34 home runs and a .233 batting average.

Landrith was the second player chosen in the 1961 expansion draft, which filled the rosters of the Houston Colt .45s and the New York Mets.  With Eddie Bressoud being chosen with the first pick by the Colt .45s, Landrith would be chosen by the Mets.  This essentially makes Landrith the first Met.

I mailed to Landrith on February 13 and got the cards back on February 28, for a 15-day TAT.

TTM Success - Albie Pearson

I was able to get an Oriole on a 1960 Topps with this success from Albie Pearson.  I wasn't expecting the awesome inscriptions on all of the cards, so that was a nice bonus.  I still haven't gotten many 1960 cards signed, so when I found this card in my vintage box, I put it in the mailer with the two cards below that I picked up in Columbia.
This was part of the 1961 Topps purchase at the Columbia antique shop last month.  Pearson charges $5/card, so I definitely got my money's worth out of this TTM success.

Pearson (b. 1934) played in the majors from 1958 to 1966 for the Senators, Orioles and Angels.  He had 831 hits, 28 home runs and a .270 batting average.  He was the 1958 AL Rookie of the Year and was an All Star in 1963.  That season, he appeared on his only MVP ballot, finishing 14th.  He was obtained by the Orioles in 1959 in a trade when the Orioles sent Lenny Green to the Senators.  He was the fourth overall pick in the 1960 premium expansion draft for the newly created Angels.

I mailed to Pearson on January 16 and got the cards back on January 27, for an 11-day TAT.

TTM Success - Russ Snyder

A tour through my Orioles box yielded me another TTM subject when I found this 1963 Post card.  I found it and looked to see if Russ Snyder was still living, and if he siged TTM.  Luckily both of those criteria were met and I went to send this card along.
A funny thing happened, though, while I was doing TTMs the day I sealed the Post card in the envelope.  I pulled out my vintage box to look for someone else, and I saw this 1960 Topps in there.  I cut the envelope open and added this card along with my request letter and other stuff.  I even changed "card" to "cards" in the letter.  I'm glad I did, because I was able to add another 1960 Topps to my ledger, as well.

Snyder (b. 1934_ played in the majors from 1959 to 1970 for the A's (Kansas City), Orioles, White Sox, Indians and Brewers.  He had 984 hits, 42 home runs and a .271 batting average.  He won the World Series with the Orioles in 1966.

I mailed to Snyder on January 4 and got the cards back on January 13, for a 9-day TAT.

TTM Success - Eddie Kasko

Here is another nice TTM success on some vintage cards raided from my vintage box and 1972 set, respectively.  This 1960 Topps turned out really nice, even though the card was pretty beat up.  I still enjoy the 1960 design, and want to get some more of them signed.
This came out of my 1972 partial set, like I said, and looks really nice.  Kasko has a nice signature, and it worked well with this card.

Kasko (b. 1931) was born in Elizabeth, NJ, which as I have said before, is where my family has deep roots.  I didn't know that beforehand.  I wish I had looked it up before I sent, I would have mentioned it in my note.  Kasko played in the majors from 1957 to 1966 for the Cardinals, Reds, Colt .45s/Astros and Red Sox.  He had 935 hits, 22 home runs and a .264 batting average.  He was an All Star in 1961 and finished 29th in the 1962 NL MVP voting.  He managed the Red Sox from 1970 to 1973 and had a career won/loss record of 345-295 (.539%).

I mailed to Kasko on November 12 and got the cards back on December 24, for a 42-day TAT.

TTM Success - Bill Fischer

I was thumbing through my vintage box when I found another handful of cards that I could send TTM.  One of those cards was this 1960 Topps Bill Fischer.  The card was rough, but turned out pretty nice with his signature.  I've always liked the 1960 set, so I should probably pick up a few more to send out.

Fischer (b. 1930) played in the majors from 1956 to 1964 for the White Sox, Tigers, Senators, A's (Kansas City) and Twins.  He had a career record of 45-58 with 313 strike outs and an ERA of 4.34.

I mailed to Fischer on November 18 and got the card back on December 12, for a 24-day TAT.

TTM Success - Bob Bruce

I received a TTM success recently on even more 60s cards.  This time I have a great version of 1964 with the Colt .45 jersey.  This success from Bob Bruce really turned out great. I picked up a few of these from sportlots and COMC to round out the ones I had found in my vintage box.
I believe this 1960 Topps RC was in my vintage box.  I have one signed by Ron Hansen, so adding another was a plus.
The 1963 on the left was also one that I already had.  The 1966 came from wherever I bought them, COMC I think.

Bruce (b. 1933) played in the majors from 1959 to 1967 for the Tigers, Colt .45s/Astros and Braves.  He had a career record of 49-71 with 733 strike outs and an ERA of 3.85.

I mailed to Bruce on November 21 and got the cards back on December 1, for a 10-day TAT.

TTM Success - Dick Schofield

I had gone through my vintage Topps box a while back and saw that I had two Dick Schofield cards that could be sent TTM.  The above 1960 was (and is) pretty beat up, so I knew I wouldn't be holding that for my set.  It turned out to be a pretty nice card.  I was glad that Schofield inscribed it with the 1960 WS Champs inscription.
This 1963 wasn't as beat up, but it still was a little rough.  I'm glad to be able to do something with the cards, even though they aren't "mint" by any means.  Some folks still don't understand that you can enjoy a card, even though it isn't pack fresh.
Finally, I was able to get this 1985 Topps Father/Son card signed.  The younger Schofield doesn't sign much, apparently, so I will probably refrain from sending it out.  It still looks nice.

Schofield (b. 1935) played in the majors from 1953 to 1971 for the Cardinals, Pirates, Giants, Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox and Brewers. He had 699 hits, 21 home runs and a .227 batting average.  He won the World Series with the Pirates in 1960.  Not only did his son have a lengthy career in MLB, but his grandson also has been in the majors for a long time.  His grandson is Nationals outfielder, Jayson Werth.

I mailed to Schofield on November 11 and got the cards back on November 25, for a 14-day TAT.
