After our autograph signing at 11:20AM, Scott, Chris and I worked our way around the Baltimore Convention Center to check out the sights and sounds of 2014 Orioles Fan Fest. We finally made our way to the memorabilia room, my favorite destination at Fan Fest, and found some cool stuff.
On the Spring Training jersey (for $50), I could have picked up a Dontrelle Willis jersey. I held off, figuring I could land a jersey later on as the prices dropped.
I went in there hoping I could score a lineup card, but I was too late. They were already gone. So, I checked out the game used baseballs, instead. This year was the first year I was at Fan Fest with my smart phone, so I was able to check the game information on the baseballs. I was able to pick up baseballs of some of my favorite players, while other folks standing there looked at me like I was crazy. One of the three baseballs I got was for Chris as well.
In the lot shown above from our first visit to the memorabilia room, I got two Nate McLouth game used balls and a Nolan Reimold ball. I could have sworn I picked up a Brian ROberts ball as well, but maybe I sat that one down by mistake. Oh well, what I got was still cool. Here is a little bit of info, as told by MLB Authenticators:
Ball 1. Cle @ Bal, June 26, 2013. Batter - Nate McLouth; Pitcher Scott Kazmir. Bottom of the 5th, Pitch in the dirt.
Ball 2: Cle @ Bal, June 27, 2013. Batter - Nate McLouth; Pitcher Corey Kluber. Bottom of the 2nd, foul ball.
And the third ball, which was a bit of a surprise:
Ball 3: Bos @ Bal, September 27, 2011. Batter - Nolan Reimold; Pitcher - Erik Bedard, Bottom of the 3rd, pitch in the dirt. According to baseball-reference.com, Nolan would go on to strike out looking in this at bat. The Orioles would lose the game 8-7 and would fall to 68-93 on the season.
Of course, we all know that the next day, history would be made. The most epic final day of a regular season was upon us, and Nolan Reimold would have a key role in that game. Yeah, this ball came from the day before, but how much do you want to bet that he was wearing the batting gloves he gave me during the above at bat? Pretty good chances, right?
I didn't even think about the date when I verified this ball. I just thought it was cool that it was a pitch to Nolan and it had come from a former Oriole. Funny thing was, though, Chris had found this ball on the floor, just under the table. Kind of like we were meant to have it. Pretty awesome, I think.

Wow, What a Week
The English majors in the crowd will appreciate the alliteration in the title of this blog post. You're welcome, Adam. So, a show of hands from everyone who predicted that the week before the Winter Meetings would be packed full of moves. Crickets? Yeah, I didn't see it coming, either. I mean, really, who thought Robinson Cano would go to the Mariners?
I thought that the Orioles would maybe make a move, but I wasn't all that thrilled that they traded Jim Johnson and seemingly got not a whole lot in return. Jemile Weeks may be a good change-of-scenery guy, so you never know. I also still don't know who they will get at the PTBNL; We'll find that out next week after the Rule V draft. Johnson blew 9 saves last year and saved 50. The O's played in WAY too many close games, so I think his saves and save opportunities stats are a bit inflated. I like the guy and will miss him, but really, I do believe he can be replaced.
I also see that former Orioles Scott Feldman and Nate McLouth offically became former Orioles today. Feldman was serviceable this year and in my mind, the O's really didn't give up much to get him. I was so done with both Strop and Arrieta that I feel the trade is still a wash, even thought Feldman turned out to be a rental player.
I am saddened, however, by the departure of Nate McLouth. He was a player you could really root for and I hate to see him go. It especially hurts that he is one of my son's favorite players (behind Lincecum, of course) and I had to let him know this evening that we won't be seeing Nate at Fan Fest. Dang.
Finally, I am still whittling down my COMC stack with today's card being the 2013 Topps Chris Davis Gold parallel. The card is numbered 397 of 2013. I now need a printing plate, Pink parallel and the Black parallel. Not bad, right?

More Mail From Roger
I am slowly catching up on my mail from the last few weeks and todays post covers a sweet package I got recently from Roger over at "I Don't Know, 3rd Base..." I had sent him several Tigers cards and in return, he sent me a ton of Orioles stuff as well as some Series 2 Emerald Parallels.
It is really hard to believe that I didn't already have the above Brian Roberts blue refractor from 2008 Finest. Those are some really nice looking cards, I think. It is numbered 49/299, not bad!
I really liked this 2010 Topps Chrome Tim Lincecum orange parallel. I guess Chris will get it in his collection eventually, but for now, I think I will enjoy it myself.
Finally, Roger sent me 23 Series 2 emerald parallels. I should be coming along nicely on this set. I really hope to be able to sit down and sort and catalog my needs. I've been saying it for a while, but I think it really needs to happen.
So, thanks again for the trade, Roger! I'll continue to keep an eye out for Tigers stuff. Also, as far as the trade you proposed in your note, please shoot me an email and we can discuss.
