Another TTM Success From Cale Yarborough

While going through some boxes of cards, I found these two Cale Yarborough cards and decided to go ahead and send them out TTM for autographs.  I believe these came from some NASCAR cards that my aunt had given me in her boxes of cards.
I had gotten Yarborough in the past, and it looks like his signature has gotten really shaky.  He will be 84 at the end of this month, so the shortened, shaky signature makes sense.

I mailed to Yarborough on December 1 and got the cards back on January 9, for a 39-day TAT.

TTM Success - Ned Jarrett

I have his grandson (Zach) on some Delmarva Shorebirds team set cards and his son (Dale) on a Wood Ducks pocket schedule, so it was only natural to try to send some cards to Ned Jarrett when I saw that he was signing TTM.

I went on COMC and picked out some cards that I thought looked cool, and they all came back signed.  I like the ones showing the old race cars.  My mom always liked seeing photos of the racers themselves, but I always liked taking photos of cars and I think that has kind of moved over to the cards as well.
All of these cards are really cool, and I didn't pay a whole lot.

Jarrett (b. 1932) ran in NASCAR's Cup series from 1953 to 1966, amassing 50 wins and 2 series championships (1961 and 1965).  He once won a race (the 1965 Southern 500 in Darlington) by a margin of 14 laps and 2 car lengths, or a total of 19.25 miles.  This is still the largest margin of victory in NASCAR history, in terms of miles.  Jarrett retired in 1966 when Ford announced they were pulling out of NASCAR.  He is still the only driver to retire as the Champion.  He went on to be a popular broadcaster for NASCAR following his retirement from racing.  He was elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame in the second class of inductees in 2011.

I mailed to Jarrett on November 4 and got the cards back on November 30, for a 26-day TAT.

Another TTM Success From Richard Petty

I had picked up some NASCAR stuff recently when I was at my LCS and also when I was buying a few things off of COMC.  I had gotten Richard Petty before, but when I saw the above Action Packed card at my LCS, and ultimately the dual card below is what definitely made me want to send to him again.
I figured I had a good chance to get both Cale Yarborough and Richard Petty on this card, but I sent it to Yarborough first.  Once I got him back, I sent these cards on to Petty.  Petty signs only two at a time, so I sent these two, but I actually had a couple others that I could have sent.  I think I'll just pass those cards on to someone else who may be able to send to him.

I mailed to Petty on November 15 and got the cards back on November 23, for an 8-day TAT.

TTM Success - Cale Yarborough

I went on a small buying spree on COMC recently that helped me obtain some cards of non-baseball TTM signers.  I found quite a few folks who were signing, so I went ahead and got a few things that would look cool in my autograph album, and I sent them out.  One such subject was former NASCAR driver, Cale Yarborough.

I actually had a site that I used to go sample for work that was next to where Yarborough lived in South Carolina.  I would see him riding around on his golf cart, but I never got the chance to talk with him.  That might be good, though, because I would probably still be there.
The above 1988 Maxx card actually came from my LCS, and that was what spurred me to search COMC for more cards, because I knew I could find a few Yarborough cards  on there.

Yarborough (b. 1939) first raced in NASCAR's Cup series in 1957 at the Southern 500 in Darlington, SC.  His last race was the 1988 Atlanta Journal 500.  In between those two races, spanning 32 seasons, Yarborough would win 83 races and three Cup championships (1976, 1977 and 1978).  He was the 1968, 1977, 1983 and 1984 Daytona 500 winner.  He was elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2012.

I mailed to Yarborough on November 4 and got the cards back on November 14, for a 10-day TAT.

TTM Success - Bobby Allison

I took a couple days off from posting due to being out of town for Thanksgiving.  I'm back now, and as always, I have a ton of TTMs to show off.

I found this 2008 Donruss Legends Bobby Allison at my LCS a few weeks ago, and sent it off to see if I could get it back signed.  The card came back, along with a facsimile autoed post card.

Allison (b. 1937) began his NASCAR Cup career at the 1961 Daytona 500 and raced until 1988.  He won 84 Cup races, including the 1978, 1982 and 1988 Daytona 500.  He was the 1983 NASCAR Winston Cup Series Champion in 1983.  Allison was elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2011.

I mailed to Allison on October 19 and got the card back on October 31, for a 12-day TAT.

TTM Success - Kyle Petty

You have to look really closely, but this card is signed by Kyle Petty.  I believe I had actually met him way back when I was working at the Harris-Teeter in Huntersville.  Rusty Wallace used to shop at that store, and I'm sure Joe Gibbs did, as well, since his shop was nearby.  I remember a guy who looked just like Petty came up to the customer service counter and chatted with me for a while, as the folks he was with were shopping.  He was really friendly, asked me about where I was going to school, how long I had been working there, etc.  After he left, one of the guys who worked in the deli asked me if I knew I had been talking to.  I said "I think that might have been Kyle Petty."  He said "Yes, it was."  It was just a cool moment that I had for 15 minutes at a store I really enjoyed working at.  Even if it wasn't really Petty, I'd like to continue to believe it was.

Petty (b. 1960) raced in his first NASCAR Winston Cup race in 1979, toward the end of the season.  He would compete in the highest NASCAR series from 1979 to 2008.  His best points finish was 5th (1992 and 1993) and would finish his career with 8 race wins.

I mailed to Petty on October 22 and got the card back on October 31, for a 9-day TAT.

TTM Success - Richard Petty

Sometimes, I venture outside of baseball for a few TTMs.  I got a box of cards from my mom that had been in the attic and for whatever reason, this Maxwell House NASCAR card was in there.  I've never been a NASCAR fan; I have always stuck to Drag Racing, but you can't live in North Carolina and not have at least an awareness of it.

So, when I saw that Richard Petty signed TTM, I wanted to be able to use this one lonely NASCAR card.  What better name from NASCAR could I attempt, anyway?  I believe I have met Petty once, when I was much younger.  I believe it was at a chicken stew at a drag racer's house, but I don't quite remember.  I do know that I met Dale Earnhardt a long time ago (Mom still has the autograph that I got).

Petty (b. 1937) raced in NASCAR's top series from 1958 until 1992, capturing 7 series championships (1964, 1967, 1971, 1972, 1974, 1975 and 1979) and 200 race victories.  His 200 race victories are a sports record that likely will never be broken.  He was among the inaugural class of NASCAR Hall of Fame inductees in 2010.  He is also a member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (1989) and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame (1997).  He was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George H. W. Bush in 1992.

I mailed to Petty on January 9 and got the card back on January 14, for a 5-day TAT.
