Mayo Smith (b. 1915 - d. 1977) played only one season in the majors (1945) for the A's. He had 43 hits, 0 home runs and a .212 batting average. He is more widely known as a manager. He managed the Phillies from 1955 to 1958, the Red(leg)s in 1959 and the Tigers from 1967 to 1970. He won the World Series as manager for the Tigers in 1968 and compiled a career record of 662-612.
