Gerry Coleman (b. 1924) played in the majors from 1949 to 1957 for the Yankees. He had 558 career hits, 16 home runs and a .263 batting average. He finished 3rd in the AL Rookie of the Year voting in 1949 and was an All Star in 1950. He won the World Series 4 times (1949, 1950, 1959 and 1956) and wore the number 42 which is now worn by Yankee legend Mariano Rivera. He managed the Padres for one season (1980) where he went 73-89.
