Here are a few really cool cards that I got back signed from Sam McDowell. The above 1973 Topps Boyhood Photos of the Stars turned out really well, I thought. I had one of these signed by Jim Palmer, and I was glad to be able to get this one done by McDowell.
I also had McDowell sign his 1965 and 1974 Topps cards. I like the 65 set, and getting them signed is getting fewer and farther in between. I'm glad to add them when I can.
McDowell (b. 1942) played in the majors from 1961 to 1975 for the Indians, Giants, Yankees and Pirates. He had a career record of 141-134 with 2,453 strike outs and a 3.17 ERA. He led the league in strike outs in 1965, 1966 and 1968 through 1970. He had over 300 strike outs twice in his career, and was a 20-game winner in 1970. That season, he finished 3rd in the AL Cy Young race. He was a 6-time All Star (1965, 1966 and 1968 through 1971) and finished a career best 16th in the AL MVP race (1970).
McDowell appeared on the 1981 Hall of Fame ballot, but didn't receive any votes.
I mailed to McDowell on May 11 and got the cards back signed on June 1, for a 21-day TAT. I paid McDowell's fee of $5/card.
