1955 Topps #124 - Harmon Killebrew


Another huge rookie card from this set is that of Harmon Killebrew (b. 1936). Killebrew is a legend in Minnesota, and one of the greatest home run hitters of all-time. He played in the majors from 1954 to 1975 for the Washington Senators/Minnesota Twins and the Kansas City Royals. He retired with 2,086 hits, 573 home runs and a .256 batting average. At the time of his retirement, he was fifth all-time in home runs.

  • 1969 AL MVP
  • All Star in 1959, 1961, 1963-1971
  • Eleventh all time in home runs
  • Led the league in home runs 6 times (1959, 1962-1964, 1967 and 1969)
  • Hit over 40 home runs 8 times
  • Led the league in RBI 3 times (1962, 1969 and 1971)
  • Ranked 9th all-time in career at bats per home run (14.2)
  • Elected to the Hall of Fame in 1984 (fourth ballot) with 83.1% of the vote

  5. I'd estimate a mint Killebrew RC would be $250 but I imagine it is about to jump in value due to his declining health.
